Bewitched Bookworms: False Sight by Dan Krokos

All Miranda wants is a normal life. She’s determined to move past the horrible truth of her origin as a clone so she can enjoy time with her boyfriend, Peter, and the rest of her friends at school. But Miranda quickly learns that there’s no such thing as normal – not for a girl who was raised to be a weapon.

When one of her teammates turns rogue, it begins a war that puts the world in jeopardy. Now Miranda must follow her instincts – not her heart – in order to save everything she’s fought so hard to keep. with the image of a terrible future seared into her mind, what will she have to sacrifice to protect the people she loves?

Dan Krokos’s sequel to the tour de force False Memory is a mind-blowing thriller with high-octane action that will leave readers begging for the final book in this bold and powerful trilogy.

****Mild spoilers for book one in the series, False Memory****

My Thoughts:

False Memory was one of my favorite books that I read last year, so I had high hopes going into this one. False Sight was a different kind of book from the first in the series, and that was a good thing. While False Memory was much more of an action thriller type book, False Sight takes a turn more towards science fiction and I highly enjoyed the direction this series has taken.

Miranda and the remaining members of her team Peter, Noah, Rhys, and her clone that they’ve named Sequel are trying to live under the radar, going to high school and attempting to be inconspicuous. Of course that can’t last long when you have to wear colored contacts to hide your eyes that have been permanently turned red from the transplanting of memories. And Miranda soon finds that she can’t take the pestering of her classmates asking to see her freaky eyes for very long before she snaps and turns to violence against them. She is a trained killer, after all.

But it isn’t Miranda that is triggered to turn against the rest of the team with just a simple code uttered into a microphone at a school dance, instantly turning their friend/ally into a formidable enemy. Losing a member of the team hurts, but even more tragic events strike and what’s left of the team must go in pursuit of the rogue member of their team. But will they find the answers that they’ve been looking for when they find them or will their life get that much more dangerous, purposeful, and confusing?

I give False Sight a five out of five. The sci-fi turn this series has taken to include alternate dimensions and sightless flesh eating monsters was creepy and fascinating. The love triangle between Miranda, Peter, and Noah gets a bit more complicated in this installment, but it’s only because Miranda takes on more than one girl should ever burden herself with. Her selflessness grows in False Sight as does the mystery of what the original creators of the Roses want to do. The action was fast-paced and spread throughout the book, leading up to an unforgettable ending. I seriously cannot wait for book three in this series!
